US demand for paper packaging (excluding boxes) will reach $8.4 billion in 2008. Niche or entrenched markets such as foodservice, pet food, fruit beverages, ice cream and dry food will resist loss of share to plastic. Rigid paper sleeves, protective packaging, tubs and cups, blister cards and other rigid types will outpace flexible paper packaging.

This study analyzes the $7.5 billion US paper packaging industry. It presents historical demand data (1993, 1998, 2003) and forecasts to 2008 and 2013 by paper packaging product (e.g., dabletop cartons, aseptic cartons, composite cans and tubes, paperboard sleeves, blister cards, paperboard trays, bags and sacks, wrap, pouches); and by market.

The study also considers market environment factors on demand, details industry structure and company market share, and profiles 34 major industry competitors including Sonoco Products, International Paper, Smurfit-Stone Container, and Tetra Pak.
