Global fuel cell spending (R&D, investment, sales) will grow 15 percent annually through 2011. Portable electronics will be the fastest growing commercial use while electric power generation will stay the largest. Proton-exchange membrane fuel cells will remain dominant over other chemistries.

This study analyzes the $5.2 billion world fuel cell industry. It presents historical demand data (1996, 2001 and 2006) and forecasts to 2011 and 2016 by fuel cell product (e.g., stacks and systems, fuels, electronics), by chemistry (e.g., proton-exchange membrane, phosphoric acid, solid oxide), by application (e.g., electric power generation, motor vehicles), by world regional market and for 14 major national markets.

The study also considers market environment factors, reviews fuel cell technology, details industry structure and competitive strategies, evaluates participant market share and profiles 39 industry players including UTC Power, Ballard Power Systems, Hydrogenics, Siemens, FuelCell Energy, and Teledyne.
