Demand for planting seeds in the US will reach $8.8 billion in 2007, driven by seeds that offer better disease resistance, higher productivity and enhanced end-use product value. Genetically modified (GM) seeds will see rapid gains in grass and flowers and growing interest in biomaterials (e.g., corn, soybeans, tobacco, wheat, alfalfa) for industrial uses.

This study analyzes the 16.2 billion pound US seeds industry. It presents historical data (1992, 1997 and 2002) and forecasts to 2007 and 2012 by product (e.g., field corn, wheat, rice, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts, sunflowers, ryegrass, fescue, alfalfa, kentucky bluegrass, vegetables, flowers); by market (e.g., crop farms, livestock farms, commercial growers, consumers); and by region.

The study also examines the market environment, details industry structure and market share, and profiles 48 leading competitors including DuPont, Monsanto, Advanta, Delta and Pine Land, Dow Chemical, Golden Harvest, Syngenta, Goldsmith Seeds, Groupe Limagrain, Pennington, Sakata, Scotts, and Seminis.
