US food container demand will reach $20.7 billion in 2009, led by plastic containers and bags and pouches. Paperboard food containers will increase at a slower pace although nontraditional types such as aseptic and retort cartons will gain a wider presence. Best market advances are anticipated for grain mill products and sauces and condiments.

This study analyzes the 221 billion unit US rigid and flexible food container industry. It presents historical demand data (1994, 1999, 2004) and forecasts to 2009 and 2014 by market (e.g., grain mill products, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, baked goods, meat products); by type (e.g., bags, pouches, boxes, cartons, cans, tubs and cups, bottles, jars, squeeze tubes); and by material (paperboard, metal, plastic, glass).

The study also considers market environment trends and indicators, details industry structure, evaluates company market share and profiles 43 major manufacturers including Silgan, Alcan, Bemis, Ball, Graphic Packaging, Crown Cork & Seal, and Smurfit-Stone Container.
