US demand for independently compounded thermoplastics will reach 7.6 billion pounds in 2008. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) will grow the fastest based on direct replacement of rubber, plastics and metals, and on design trends featuring soft-touch surfaces. Construction will remain the top market while medical and industrial uses grow the fastest.

This study analyzes the $10.8 billion US independent thermoplastic compounding industry. It presents historical demand data (1993, 1998 and 2003) and forecasts to 2008 and 2013 by resin (e.g., engineered thermoplastics, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene, thermoplastic elastomers, polystyrene); and by market.

The study also examines the market environment, details industry structure and market share, and profiles 39 industry competitors including PolyOne, Ampacet, Schulman, Teknor Apex, Ferro, Spartech, and LNP Engineering.
