US label shipments will grow 5.1 percent annually through 2011. Best opportunities are anticipated for the dominant pressure sensitive segment. However, stretch sleeve and heat shrink labels will grow the fastest. Paper will remain the largest stock material but will continue losing market share to plastic.

This study analyzes the $14.3 billion US label industry. It presents historical demand data for 1996, 2001 and 2006, and forecasts for 2011 and 2016 by raw material (e.g., paper, plastic films, adhesives, inks); application method (e.g., pressure sensitive, glue-applied, stretch sleeve and heat-shrink, thermal transfer, in-mold); stock material (e.g., paper, plastic); printing technology (e.g., flexography, lithography, screen, letterpress, gravure, digital); and function (e.g., primary packaging, secondary labels).

The study also considers market environment factors, details industry structure, evaluates company market share and profiles 44 leading producers including Avery Dennison, Bemis, Green Bay Packaging, and UPM-Kymmene.
