Recovered Glass: United States

This report forecasts the total recovery of post-consumer glass from the US municipal solid waste (MSW) stream in tons. Total recovered glass is segmented by source product in terms of: beer and soft drink bottles, wine and liquor bottles, and other bottles and jars. For comparison, this report also forecasts the total generation of MSW glass in tons, segmented by: beer and soft drink bottles, wine and liquor bottles, other bottles and jars, and durable goods.

To illustrate historical trends, total glass recovery is provided in an annual series from 2003 to 2013. Total glass generation and the various segments for recovery and generation are reported at five-year intervals for 2008 and 2013. An Industry Overview section defines source products, discusses industry drivers and constraints, identifies substitute source products when applicable, and provides pertinent background on trends in recycling initiatives, and glass production and cullet processing.

A Industry Forecasts section assesses the impact of key drivers and constraints on each source product segment over the forecast period.

Further analysis includes an Industry Structure section, which surveys the supply base and profiles the leading companies competing in the US industry. A one-page, introductory Highlights section summarizes key findings from this 21-page report, and a Resources section lists contributing sources as well as resources available for further research.
