The Global Filters Market to Grow at a Healthy Pace Between 2017 and 2022
Global filter demand is projected to grow 4.6% per year to $87 billion in 2022, a slight improvement over the 2012-2017 pace. A number of trends will support market gains, including: the expansion of the world’s motor vehicle, motorcycle, and equipment stocks; additional government investment in utilities networks; advances in worldwide manufacturing and construction activity; increasing consumer demand for filtration products; and a shift toward higher-quality, better-performing filtration technologies.
Key Findings in the Global Filters Study:
Transportation Equipment Segment to Account for more than 40% of New Filter Demand
Global demand for filters used in transportation equipment is projected to advance nearly 5% per year through 2022, supported by rising motor vehicle, motorcycle, ship and boat, and aerospace equipment production. As the global stocks of these machines grow, aftermarket demand for filters will rise at a swift pace. Increasing foreign participation in the motor vehicle and motorcycle industries of developing nations – such as Mexico and Brazil – will encourage a shift toward more expensive filtration products.
Asia/Pacific Region to Post the Largest Gains
Led by China, the Asia/Pacific region is projected to account for 57% of all new filter demand through 2022. The region’s expanding manufacturing sector, rising motor vehicle ownership rates, and high levels of government investment in the public infrastructure will provide much of the impetus for growth. China will account for the largest share of the region’s new filter demand, but most other industrializing nations – including India and Indonesia – will record strong gains as well. Even the mature filter markets of Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan will post sizable gains in absolute terms.
Industrializing Nations to Record Above Average Growth Between 2017 and 2022
Filter demand in the Africa/Mideast region and Central and South America is forecast to advance 7% and 6% through 2022, respectively. Countries in these regions will continue to upgrade their utilities networks and adopt more stringent air and water quality and motor vehicle emissions standards, causing filter sales to rise. As the number of motor vehicles and motorcycles in use in these nations increases, aftermarket filter demand will grow.
Study Coverage
This Freedonia industry study analyzes the $69.6 billion global filter market. It presents historical demand (2007, 2012, and 2017) and forecasts for 2022 and 2027 by product (oil filters; air intake filters; fuel filters; other internal combustion engine filters; fluid power filters; consumer water filters; other fluid filters; panel and air pocket filters; fabric air filters; and other air filters) and market (motor vehicles; motorcycles; other transportation equipment; manufacturing; consumer; utilities; off-road equipment; and other markets). The study evaluates company market share and analyzes industry participants, including Cummins, Daikin, Danaher, Donaldson MAHLE, MANN + HUMMEL, and Parker-Hannifin.
