Freedonia Study: World Thermoplastics Elastomers (TPEs) (2551)

World demand for thermoplastic elastomers will increase 6% to 4.2m tonnes by 2013, with the majority of sales concentrated in China, Japan, the US and western Europe, predicts a new Freedonia report. Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) will experience the strongest growth, as demand is expected to increase 10.5% to 389,000 tonnes, says the ‘World Thermoplastic Elastomers’ report. However, styrenic block copolymers (SBCs) will still account for the largest market – 2m tonnes in 2013, up from 1.56m tonnes in 2008. Most developing countries focus on low-cost SBCs because of their existing uses in styrene-butadiene and polybutadiene rubber production, says Freedonia.
