A rebound in building construction, combined with an expansion of oil and gas exploration and transmission activity, is expected to contribute to 6.2% annual growth in US demand for pipe, which will reach USD 50.1 bn in 2016. A recently published report “Plastic and competitive pipe” from market researcher Freedonia (Cleveland, Ohio / USA; www.freedoniagroup.com) says the continued need to replace and repair the country’s aging water pipe networks will also contribute to growth. In terms of length, pipe demand is forecast to expand at 8.3% annually to nearly 3.35m km in 2016, totalling almost 17.2m t, with gains resulting primarily from a turnaround in building construction.
