Recovered Packaging: United States
This report forecasts to 2018 the total recovery of post-consumer packaging from the US municipal solid waste (MSW) stream in tons. For comparison, this report also forecasts to 2018 the total generation (in tons) of packaging MSW. Total packaging recovery and generation are segmented by material in terms of paper and paperboard, glass, wood, metal, plastic, and other packaging (generation only).
To illustrate historical trends, total packaging recovered and generated is provided in an annual series from 2003 to 2013; the various segments of recovered and generated packaging are reported at five-year intervals for 2008 and 2013. An Industry Overview section defines materials, discusses industry drivers and constraints, identifies substitute materials when applicable, and provides pertinent background on package recycling initiatives and material separation technology.
An Industry Forecasts section assesses the impact of key drivers and constraints on each material segment over the forecast period.
Further analysis includes an Industry Structure section, which surveys the supply base and profiles the leading firms competing in the US industry. A one-page, introductory Highlights section summarizes key findings from this 25-page report, and a Resources section lists contributing sources as well as resources available for further research.
