Stimulated by improvements in the manufacturing and construction markets, global demand for silicones will increase 5.9% until 2017, according to a new report. The World Silicones to 2017 report from Freedonia says the market will be worth $18.9bn (€14.3bn) in 2017, up from its current value of $14.2bn (€10.8bn). Growth is coming from the manufacturing and construction industry rebounding from the “recession-plagued” 2007-2012 period, as well as the rising use of high-value materials in emerging applications, says the report.

Furst served as the keynote speaker at the 2014 International Silicone Conference, held May 20-21 at the Hilton Inn in Fairlawn.
