This report forecasts to 2027 US retail bag demand and production in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of: single-use plastic, single-use paper, and reusable. Total demand is also segmented by market as follows: grocery stores; foodservice; and other retail stores, such as general merchandise stores, pharmacies, and apparel stores.

To illustrate historical trends, total demand is provided in annual series from 2012 to 2022; production and the various segments are reported at five-year intervals for 2012, 2017, and 2022.

Excluded from the scope of this report are bag stock, bakery department bags, beach or pool bags, book bags, can or box liners, deli department bags, dry-cleaning garment bags, duffel bags, food storage bags, general purpose totes, gift bags, insulated cooler bags, kitchen storage bags, mailers/shipping bags, messenger bags, newspaper bags, packaging bags, party bags, produce department bags, tote bags, trash/garbage bags, and travel bags. Also excluded are any other bags used for packing, storing, disposing, or protecting merchandise prior to sale or that are used for any function other than handling merchandise.
