This study examines global supply and demand for carpets and rugs. Historical data (2009, 2014, and 2019) and forecasts for 2024 and 2029 are provided for carpet and rug demand by product and market, net exports, and shipments on a country-by-country basis.

Carpets and rugs are segmented into:

  • tufted (e.g., broadloom, vehicular carpet, carpet tiles, scatter rugs, artificial grass)
  • woven (e.g., Axminster, Wilton, velvet, prayer rugs)
  • other carpets and rugs, including needlepunched, knotted, knitted, and braided

Excluded from the study are handmade, commercially products carpets and rugs, and well as handmade, artisanal products.

Carpet and rug demand by market is presented for:

  • new residential construction
  • residential improvement and repair
  • new nonresidential construction
  • nonresidential improvement and repair
  • vehicle and nonbuilding (e.g., motor vehicles, aircraft, boats and ships, power plants, water treatment facilities, cranes, industrial trucks)

Demand is presented in square meter terms and dollars, while production is given in square meters. Demand in value terms is shown at the manufacturers’ level and excludes distributor and retailer markups.
