According to the US Freedonia Group, the US recreational marine industry is finally growing. So if things go as they have done in the past, we should start to see some growth over here. But let’s not get too carried away. The Freedonia Group says the recovery will be slower than in past downturns. Its report says by 2016, the US recreational marine industry will grow 8% to $10.1bn. This is around $5bn less than the US industry’s peak in 2006. So thinking things will recover to where we were pre-2007 is not on the cards. This is perhaps borne out over here by the latest figures from Princess, which has just reported a 28% fall in pre-tax profits last year to £15.1m. US boat sales are projected to grow 9.8% between 2011 and 2016 to $6.8bn. Propulsion system sales will grow 6.2% to $2.16bn and accessory sales will grow 2.7% to $1.14bn.
