Concern over sugar content to weigh on traditional options
Cleveland OH, October 2, 2024 — US demand for fruit beverages is forecast to grow 2.2% yearly in nominal terms through 2028, according to Fruit Beverages: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Demand for products touted as healthier, more natural alternatives to traditional juices and soft drinks will contribute to value gains. Furthermore, the increased availability of fruit beverages with added health benefits or reduced sugar is likely to buoy demand. However, many consumers have shifted away from eating a traditional, sit-down breakfast, which has hurt demand for fruit juice. This report includes an analysis of proprietary survey data, covering consumer sentiment regarding the healthiness and safety of fruit juices, and things beverage manufacturers can do to improve such perception. Consumer preferences with regard to beverages have changed to a more significant focus on functional beverages, such as those containing caffeine or added electrolytes, rather than sugar-rich fruit juice. Concerns over the high sugar content of fruit juice will continue to weigh on demand over the forecast period. Additionally, competition from other products targeted at health-conscious consumers, such as sparkling waters, coffee, tea, and dairy alternatives (e.g., almond milk, oat milk) will prevent further gains.
These and other key insights are featured in Fruit Beverages: United States. This report forecasts to 2028 US fruit beverage demand and shipments in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand and shipments are segmented by product in terms of:
