Robotic vacuums, other high-end appliances to boost value growth
Cleveland OH, October 1, 2024 — US demand for electric household floor care appliances is forecast to grow 2.8% yearly in nominal terms through 2028, according to Household Floor Care Appliances: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Suppliers are expected to benefit from gains in construction expenditures on residential improvements, disposable personal incomes, existing home sales, existing residential floor space, and households. Improvement projects for existing homes, including installing new flooring types, will also support appliance sales. In addition, purchases of high-end appliances, such as high-performance cordless stick vacuums and robotic vacuums, will boost demand in value terms. Furthermore, ongoing hybrid work policies boost the importance of household cleaning appliances, particularly as it relates to air quality, ease of use, and noise, supporting continuing interest for premium products. However, product durability and market maturity will prevent faster gains. Faster growth will also be limited by consumer perception of some product categories as unnecessary luxuries (e.g., carpet shampooers, floor polishers) and the availability of services from professional floor cleaners that use commercial equipment to clean residential floors.
This report features analysis of results from the Freedonia Focus Reports national online consumer survey. It looks at floor care appliance ownership and usage rates by product, and includes crosstabs by various demographic factors, such as pet ownership. For example, robotic vacuums find the most frequent daily use, suggesting suppliers should continue to focus on improvements to navigation and other features that guarantee a better daily user experience.
These and other key insights are featured in Household Floor Care Appliances: United States. This report forecasts to 2028 US household floor care appliances demand and shipments in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of:
