Some competition to cheese will come from a growing variety of non-dairy alternatives.
Cleveland, OH, May 9, 2023 — US consumption of natural cheese is forecast to grow 1.8% per year in volume terms through 2027, according to Cheese: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports.
Advances will continue to reflect strong marketing efforts by cheese producers and local, state, and national promotion groups, such as Dairy Management Inc (DMI), a trade association funded by the country’s 37,000 dairy farmers, as well as importers. Suppliers will continue to benefit from product positioning as fundamentally nutritious and good tasting, despite an often-high fat content.
New product introductions that address consumer concerns over fat and sodium levels will contribute to gains. Artisanal, natural, and organic varieties are expected to benefit from the “better-for-you” ongoing trend. Suppliers will also continue to benefit from successes at positioning cheese as a snack via a host of new product introductions, such as cracker-cut slices, bite-size pieces, interesting new flavors and ingredients, and snack/lunch kits. However, demand for natural cheese will be affected by product diversification toward ongoing dairy alternative trends, such as vegan cheeses.
These and other key insights are featured in Cheese: United States. This report forecasts to 2023 and 2027 US natural cheese consumption in pounds. Total consumption is segmented by product in terms of:
