Post is really building momentum in the pet market. Its acquisition of most of JM Smucker’s pet food portfolio earlier this year pretty much made it an instant major player, and with Perfection Pet Foods, it gets itself a ready-made private label business and additional manufacturing capacity.
This has been a sticking point for a lot of pet food players in the past year, right? who have been scrambling to buy up smaller companies just to get access to processing plants and distribution centers to be able to get more product out there.
I know, like BrightPet just bought Raw Advantage for similar reasons. And Alphia with Better Choice and Purina with Red Collar.
Yeah, Purina was having problems with production capabilities, they really wanted to bring more of it in-house instead of farming it out. I saw an article about how using third-party manufacturers was losing appeal because of competition and reliability issues.
