Is it vegan if the animal used to make the pet food was never alive? I’m not sure if cultured meat technically counts, but it does limit the environmental impact of farmed meat and the potential for zoonotic disease going from the animal in the food to the pet ingesting the food. Sure, and it could open up new avenues for super premium pet food suppliers… especially human-grade options such as whole muscle and organ meat where they compete with the human meat market for ingredient. …or thinking beyond that to pet food made from exotic animals or other costly protein sources that might be found to provide certain nutritional benefits… like when Primeval Foods suggested that London’s Michelin starred restaurants would serve its lion burgers and zebra sushi upon approval. Is there less of a potential “ick” factor in what we feed our pets compared to what we’ll feed ourselves?
