Interest in Bathroom and Kitchen Remodeling to Spur Growth
US demand for plumbing fixtures and fittings is forecast to advance 4.4% annually to $15.9 billion in 2024. The key residential improvement and repair segment will play a large role in boosting demand gains going forward as homeowners will continue to remodel their homes to add more and larger bathrooms and more expansive kitchens. These products will in turn spur the installation of more plumbing fixtures – such as sinks and toilets – and the fittings that connect them to water supply and waste lines.
Key Findings in the Plumbing Fixtures & Fittings Study:
Design Trends that Call for More Bathrooms to Boost Demand
Design trends that call for the installation of more bathrooms in both homes and commercial structures will drive demand for both plumbing fixtures and plumbing fittings. Many of these bathrooms will be full bathrooms and include bathtubs and/or showers, necessitating the installation of stalls and receptors, surrounds, and fittings. Even if a full bathroom is not specified, virtually every bathroom includes a toilets and sinks – as well as their related fittings – promoting overall demand gains.
Bathtub & Shower Fixtures to See the Fastest Gains Going Forward
Bathtub and shower fixtures are forecast to see the most rapid growth of all plumbing fixture types going forward, supported by consumer interest in more aesthetically appealing products that enhance the appearance and value of a home. Consumers will increasingly add such items as acrylic shower stalls and surrounds and cast iron bathtubs to create a more spa-like look in their homes.
Products that Promote Aging-in-Place to See Growth
The share of Americans aged 55 and over is expected to rise going forward, and this “graying” of the US is expected to play a role in shaping demand for plumbing fixtures and fittings going forward. Home and business owners will increasingly install products that are easier for the elderly and disabled to use, such as elevated toilet seats, walk-in bathtubs, step-free shower stalls and surrounds, and touchless faucets.
Study Coverage
This Freedonia industry study analyzes the $12.9 billion US plumbing fixtures and fittings market. It presents historical sales and demand data (2009, 2014, and 2019) and forecasts for 2024 and 2029 by product (plumbing fixtures, plumbing fittings), by market (residential, commercial, and transportation), by application (new and reroofing), and by US Census region and subregion. Demand is presented in dollar value terms for all products and in unit terms for all plumbing fixtures. The study also evaluates factors spurring plumbing fixture and fitting demand and looks at leading plumbing product manufacturers.
