Report Overview
Beyond the Exterior
The US siding market is shifting toward higher performance, lower maintenance materials that combine durability with stronger aesthetics. Fiber cement, engineered wood, metal, and composite siding are gaining attention as builders and homeowners place greater value on longevity, resilience, and differentiated design, creating opportunities in both replacement projects and higher-end new construction.
Key Themes Covered in this Report:
- Material share shifts among vinyl, fiber cement, engineered wood, metal, brick, stucco, stone, and composite siding
- Replacement siding demand versus new residential construction
- Regional siding preferences across the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West
- Fiber cement gains and competitive pressure on vinyl and traditional wood siding
- Fire, moisture, impact, and weather resistance as siding selection factors
- Manufacturer positioning and competitive share
- Pricing differences by siding material, product type, and construction application

Demand for siding in the US is forecast to rise 3.0% per year to $24.4 billion in 2030, supported by increases in remodeling and replacement activity.
A Market Shaped by Replacement & Material Substitution
The US siding market is increasingly shaped by replacement demand and ongoing shifts in material preference. An aging housing stock provides a durable base of remodeling activity as homeowners replace worn exteriors while also upgrading appearance, maintenance requirements, insulation, and moisture protection. While many homeowners choose to replace their old siding with the same material – supporting significant demand for products like vinyl, stucco, and clay brick – materials such as fiber cement, engineered wood, and composite continue to see increasing use by offering premium aesthetics and in some cases better durability compared to more traditional materials.
Premium Looks & Performance Are Moving to the Forefront
Homeowners and builders are moving beyond basic horizontal siding toward deeper profiles, vertical applications, richer colors, realistic wood appearances, and mixed material façades. These preferences support demand for fiber cement and engineered wood while creating additional opportunities for other materials. Performance is also becoming more important as wildfire exposure, severe storms, moisture, and long-term maintenance concerns increase demand for fire resistance, impact resistance, dimensional stability, and durability.
Ease of Installation & Mixed Material Exteriors Offer Growth Opportunities
The strongest growth opportunities center on delivering improved aesthetics and building performance without adding excessive cost or jobsite complexity. Skilled labor constraints are increasing the value of lighter products, factory finishing, longer boards, larger panels, simplified fastening systems, and other approaches that reduce field work and shorten installation time. Mixed material exteriors provide another avenue for growth by allowing builders to introduce premium materials selectively rather than across the entire façade.
Report Scope
This study analyzes US demand for siding by material, market, and region. Siding is defined as the exterior cladding or covering of a building, typically applied to protect the underlying structure from the elements and enhance its aesthetic appeal. Excluded from the scope of this report are ancillary products (like soffit, moulding, and trim), sheathing that is used as a base for siding, and separate insulation materials.
Siding materials are broken out by:
- vinyl
- fiber cement
- clay brick
- stucco
- engineered wood, including oriented strand board (OSB), plywood, and hardboard
- metal
- concrete (non-loadbearing concrete bricks and precast concrete panels)
- composite
- small volume siding materials, including EIFS, high-pressure laminates, manufactured and quarried natural stone, natural wood, polypropylene, plastic and vitreous panels, and tile
The major market segments analyzed are new residential, residential renovation, new commercial, and commercial renovation. Historical data for 2015, 2019, and 2025 and forecasts for 2030 and 2035 are presented in square feet and in current dollars (which are not adjusted for inflation).
The US siding market reached $21.0 billion in 2025.
Fiber cement and composite siding are the most notable siding materials to see their share of the market increase during the forecast period.
Cornerstone Building Brands, James Hardie, Louisiana-Pacific, Saint-Gobain (via CertainTeed), and Westlake Royal Building Products are among the most important suppliers of siding in the US.
