This study analyzes the US market for vacuum skin packaging (VSP) film for food applications by market and backing material (pre-made plastic trays, thermoformed plastic trays, paperboard and other). Historical data (2009, 2014, and 2019) and forecasts for 2024 are presented for vacuum skin packaging demand in current US dollars (including inflation).

Market segments include:

  • meat – including beef and veal, pork, and lamb and other meats (e.g., bison, goat)
  • poultry – chicken, turkey, and other products such as goose and duck
  • seafood – all fish and shellfish
  • cheese and other foods (e.g., fruits, vegetables, rice, beans)

VSP is only considered the high-barrier film used to surround food products, and excludes the value of pre-made trays used as the lower web of the packaging.

VSP used to package industrial components and other non-food items is excluded.
