Two Scenarios for US Cobalt Demand to 2022

Cleveland, OH, April 24, 2018 — US demand for cobalt is forecast to see minimal annual growth to 2022, according to the baseline scenario projected in Cobalt: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. The optimistic scenario envisions much stronger annual growth in US cobalt demand. This latter scenario assumes the following conditions:

• Tesla and other battery manufacturers would have to meet production targets and make battery cells in the US from battery cathode material also made in the country.
• US battery material producers must have good access to global cobalt supplies.
• Global cobalt suppliers must be able to expand to meet demand.
