US Household Furniture Demand to Rise 2.8% Annually in Nominal Terms to 2022

Cleveland, OH, November 28, 2018 — US demand for household furniture is forecast to rise 2.8% annually in nominal terms through 2022, according to Household Furniture: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Suppliers will benefit from continued gains in new housing completions and residential improvement expenditures. Increases in disposable personal income will support consumer purchases of premium furniture to outfit their living spaces. However, sales of used furniture, particularly via online marketplaces, will continue to impede faster gains.

Demand for upholstered indoor and outdoor furniture, the largest segment, is forecast to rise 3.3% annually through 2022. Increases in residential improvements will support sales, as consumers often purchase new upholstered furniture when renovating their homes. Ongoing expansion in residential floor space will create more opportunities for furniture placement.
