Rebound from post-pandemic drop, alongside improving home sales and residential spending, to spur demand
Cleveland, OH, July 3, 2024 — US demand for decorative lighting sets is forecast to increase 9.9% annually in nominal terms through 2028, according to Decorative Lighting Sets: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports. Suppliers will continue to benefit from consumer desires for the festive atmosphere created by decorative lighting sets, both during holidays and year-round in outdoor living spaces. Households with children often prefer to maintain a cheerful environment during the winter holidays, which also boosts sales. Suppliers are expected to benefit from projected gains in existing home sales and home improvement spending and ongoing investment in outdoor living areas in residential and commercial spaces.
Faster gains in demand for decorative lighting sets will be limited by the elevated levels recorded during the COVID-19 era. The longer replacement intervals of LED lighting sets, which represent a growing share of the installed base relative to incandescent lights, will also be a factor. In addition, faster sales gains in holiday lighting sets are expected to suffer from projected declines in the population under 15 years old, as households with children represent a key demographic. Suppliers of decorative lighting sets face competition from producers of permanent outdoor landscape and track lighting systems featuring LED lights programmable into various colors, including winter holiday light schemes. Such systems are installed on the exterior facades of residential and commercial buildings and outdoor areas.
In 2024, demand for decorative lighting sets is forecast to advance 17%, owing to a projected rebound after a retreat in sales from demand peaks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022 and 2023. Expected rebounds in existing homes sales and construction expenditures on residential building improvements – activities that often correlate with spending on decorative lighting – are forecast to support sales in 2024.
These and other key insights are featured in Decorative Lighting Sets: United States. This report forecasts to 2028 US demand for decorative lighting sets in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of:
