Key themes covered in this report:
- Solid surface countertops continue to be a primary player in cast polymer market
- Cultured stone encompasses more than cultured marble, alternatives and their uses
- Despite its versatility, polymer concrete will maintain its place as an industrial material
Featuring 55 Tables & 24 Figures!
The US cast polymer countertop market was valued at $779 million in 2023. Demand for cast polymer countertops – which include solid surface, cultured stone, and polymer concrete countertops – is expected to grow 3.0% per year to $903 million in 2028. Growth in square footage will be relatively modest, but market value will be boosted by the product mix shifting toward higher-value solid surface and specialty cultured stone products.
Cast Polymer Producers Innovate to Chase Growth at Both Ends of the Countertop Market
Cast polymer producers are pursuing growth through dual strategies; the first is reinforcing their positions in cost-sensitive segments with efficient fabrication and integrated designs, and the other is upgrading aesthetics and performance to compete in midrange (and even some premium) applications. Cultured stone remains strong in value-focused residential and multifamily bathrooms, while newer solid surface and polymer concrete offerings are gaining traction in commercial, healthcare, and institutional settings. The best opportunities for cast polymers lie in markets where ease of installation, customization, and hygiene are valued alongside competitive pricing.
Natural Aesthetic Preferences Reshape Countertop’s Competitive Landscape
Customer demand for natural-looking surfaces is driving growth in engineered stone, natural stone, and porcelain countertops and putting pressure on cast polymer products with dated or artificial appearances. In response, cast polymer producers are pursuing visual realism through more refined veining, particulate patterns, and matte finishes – particularly in newer cultured granite, onyx, and alabaster materials. These upgrades help reposition cultured stone as a cost-effective alternative to premium surfaces, as well as allow cast polymers to compete more effectively with laminate in the lower-cost segment (by offering better appearance with molded-in functionality).
Commercial Markets Emerge as Growth Channel for Solid Surface & Polymer Concrete
Demand gains for solid surface and polymer concrete countertops are increasingly coming from the commercial and industrial markets (where functionality, cost-efficiency, and hygiene often trump appearance). Solid surface is gaining traction in healthcare, education, and hospitality, while polymer concrete is expanding in labs and institutional infrastructure due to its strength and chemical resistance. These sectors offer more stable, specification-driven demand with less vulnerability to changing design trends.

US Cast Polymer Countertops Report Scope
This study analyzes US demand for cast polymer and other solid surface countertops by surface material, area of installation, and market. Countertop demand is measured at the fabricator level (the point at which the material is formed into a countertop) for all surface materials. Edging and backsplashes are included in demand figures. Historical data for 2013, 2018, and 2023 and forecasts for 2028 and 2033 are presented in square feet and US dollars..
For the purposes of this study, market sizes and market share are calculated at the countertop material suppliers’ level.
Countertop materials covered in this report include:
- solid surface
- cultured stone, including cultured marble, cultured granite, cultured onyx, and cultured alabaster
- polymer concrete
Countertop products by area of installation include:
- kitchen countertops (e.g., kitchen islands, outdoor kitchens)
- bathroom countertops (e.g., used to top vanities)
- other countertops, such as those used to top store display cabinets; home office, laundry room, mudroom, and hobby/craft room cabinets; wet bars; and garage work benches
The major market segments analyzed are:
- residential buildings, including:
- single-family housing, which includes manufactured housing
- multifamily housing
- commercial buildings, which are segmented into:
- healthcare and education buildings, including hospitals and educational structures such as schools, childcare and day-care centers, administration buildings, dormitories and residence halls, school libraries, and athletic facilities
- office and retail buildings, including offices, retail establishments such as stores and shopping centers, foodservice establishments, warehousing and storage facilities not located on industrial sites, and various other commercial structures such as banks and theaters
- hotel and lodging, which includes hospitality facilities such as hotels and motels
- industrial and other commercial buildings, including airport and bus terminals, civic centers, post offices, prisons, and recreational buildings
Markets are also broken out by new and remodeling project types.
Integrated sinks were included in demand if they featured functional counter space on either side of the sink (only the counter space itself was included in the countertop estimate – the sink itself was excluded). If the integrated sink only featured a small edge or lip, the entire integrated sink was excluded.
Excluded from the scope of residential buildings are housing units located in a structure whose primary purpose is something other than habitation. Thus, a small living space contained in a larger retail facility would be classified as part of a retail building and not a residential building.
Cast Polymer Countertops Description
Cast polymer countertops are manmade surfaces formed by casting mixtures of liquid resins (typically polyester or acrylic) and mineral fillers (e.g., calcium carbonate, alumina trihydrate, or crushed stone) in molds to create finished countertop products. These countertops can either be finished with a gel coat or be solid throughout, depending on the product type.
Cast polymer countertops are widely used in residential bathrooms and kitchens. They also see significant use in commercial, hospitality, and institutional settings where seamless design, integrated features, and/or cost-effective custom shapes are valued.
Types of cast polymer countertops include:
- cultured stone
- cultured marble
- cultured granite
- cultured onyx
- cultured alabaster
- solid surface
- polymer concrete
Solid surface is the most common type of cast polymer countertop; it is primarily made from acrylic or polyester resins combined with mineral fillers (such as alumina trihydrate), with the exact composition varying from company to company. The material mix may also include colorants, stabilizers, ultraviolet light absorbers, and cross-linking agents. The term "solid surface" is derived from the material’s homogeneity, and that lack of a surface coating or separate layer makes it repairable, seamless in appearance, and suitable for integrated sinks and backsplashes.
Cultured stone countertops – another variety of cast polymer surface – are made by blending polyester resins with mineral fillers and pigments, then casting the mixture into molds and finishing it with a durable gel coat. These products are designed to replicate the appearance of natural stone, but with moldability, seamless integration, and lower pricing. The main types of cultured stone countertops share similar base materials and manufacturing processes, but they differ in their visual effects. Although these distinctions are primarily aesthetic, they do influence where each type of cultured stone countertop can be used and is positioned in the market.
Polymer concrete countertops, yet another variety of cast polymer surface, are made by combining a polymer resin (typically polyester or epoxy) with a high loading of mineral or aggregate fillers (e.g., silica, quartz, or crushed stone). Unlike other cast polymer products, polymer concrete does not use a gel coat and has a dense, heavy, and highly durable structure, making it ideal for demanding environments. Polymer concrete countertops are most commonly used in utility, laboratory, industrial, and institutional settings where chemical resistance, strength, and longevity are more important than decorative appearance. They differ from cultured marble or solid surface in both composition and application, offering superior toughness but less visual refinement.
Excluded from the scope of this report are those countertops that incorporate polymers in their construction but are not considered cast polymer products. These include:
- coated concrete countertops
- engineered stone countertops
- epoxy resin countertops
- fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) countertops
- laminate countertops
- recycled plastic composite countertops
Cast Polymer Countertop Industry Value Chain
The cast polymer countertop industry can be valued at the raw material, fabrication, and installation levels, which represent different stages in the value chain.
- The raw materials level includes the cost of resins, fillers, pigments, and additives used to produce cast polymer products.
- The fabrication level reflects the value of transforming those raw materials into finished countertops through casting, curing, finishing, and any customization or integrated molding.
- The installation level includes delivery, on-site handling, and labor associated with installing the countertop in its final setting.
The relative value added at each stage can vary significantly depending on the countertop material, design complexity, and market.
The raw material value in cast polymer countertops is relatively low compared to the finished product, as the inputs – typically polyester or acrylic resins, calcium carbonate or alumina trihydrate fillers, pigments, and gel coats – are commodity-grade and inexpensive. However, these materials are specifically formulated for moldability and aesthetic appeal, which differentiates them from general-purpose resins or industrial fillers.
The fabrication stage is where much of the value is added in the cast polymer segment. Unlike materials that are cut from slabs (like engineered stone or natural stone), cast polymer countertops are created by pouring resin-filler mixtures into custom molds. This enables the production of integrated sinks, backsplashes, and other complex shapes without seams. Labor and equipment costs in this stage include mold maintenance, finishing, sanding or polishing, and any quality control processes. Many cast polymer manufacturers also serve regional markets directly, so this stage often includes made-to-order customization (which increases its share of total value).
The installation stage for cast polymer countertops adds less value relative to other countertop products like granite or engineered stone. Cast polymer products are generally lighter, pre-molded to size, and include integrated features, all of which simplify installation and reduce labor time. As a result, installation is typically quicker and less costly than with slab-based materials that require cutting, seaming, and reinforcement on-site. This makes cast polymer an attractive option in multifamily, hospitality, and institutional projects where installation efficiency is a key concern.
Most of the value in the cast polymer countertop industry is concentrated in the fabrication stage, with relatively modest contributions from raw materials and installation. This value structure contrasts with slab-based surfaces, for which raw material and installation tend to comprise much larger shares of the total.
