The introduction of new electric mining machines and advanced, autonomous equipment strengthens both Caterpillar’s standing in the global market and its reputation for technological innovation.
January 5, 2024 – In mid-December 2023, Caterpillar demonstrated its first battery-electric prototype underground mining truck to major mining companies, expanding the company’s battery electric and semi-autonomous technology offering for underground mining applications. The new machine was developed with input from operators and with the support of Newmont, which has partnered with Caterpillar to achieve its “vision of a fully connected, automated, zero carbon emitting, end-to-end mining system”.
The introduction of new electric mining machines and advanced, autonomous equipment strengthens both Caterpillar’s standing in the global market and its reputation for technological innovation. By being among the first to bring electric machines to market and partnering with mining companies, Caterpillar is able to position itself for long-term growth. Additionally, the new electric underground mining truck complements Caterpillar’s R1700 XE battery electric loader, helping to create a complete fully electric underground load and haul solution for customers.
